Bahrain Cracks Down on Illegal Vendors, Street Encroachments in Al-Hajiyyat Area

Bahrain’s Southern Municipality yesterday organised a massive drive to decongest the Al-Hajiyyat area in Riffa of illegal hawkers, street vendors, and encroachments on sidewalks. Starting from block 939, officials evicted eight street peddlers who had occupied the sidewalks with makeshift setups.

Additionally, the enforcement team removed vendors who were obstructing public pathways with unauthorised setups for cooking and selling food, beverages, and clothing. The team also confiscated four vehicles that street vendors were using to encroach upon footpaths and public spaces.

Legal actions are currently being pursued against these vendors. Several shops were also issued warnings regarding their violations, with expectations for corrective actions to be taken.

The municipal enforcement team worked in conjunction with the Southern Governorate Police and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority.

The Municipality of the Southern Region emphasised the importance of citizens and residents refraining from purchasing goods from illegal vendors, for they seldom follow any safety and health requirements.
