A young Bahraini woman, who sustained a 5% disability from a horse bite, has been awarded BD3,000 in compensation by the Fourth High Civil Court. The court ruled that the stable owner must pay the amount to the injured woman. The lawsuit details that the woman, while riding at the defendant’s stable, was attacked by another horse owned by the same stable. The attack occurred after she had fallen from her own horse, resulting in serious injuries. Medical reports confirmed that the injuries led to a permanent 5% disability. In its ruling, the court emphasized that the defendant, as the keeper of the horse, was liable for the incident. The defendant failed to provide any evidence of external factors that could negate his responsibility. Consequently, the court ordered the defendant to pay 2,500 dinars for material damages and 500 dinars for moral damages.

A drug dealer, charged with smuggling drugs in his stomach, and his girlfriend have been sentenced to five and three years in Bahrain’s prison, respectively, after a tip-off led to their arrest. In addition to their jail terms, the court imposed a BD3,000 fine on each of them, and they will be deported once their sentences are served. Court documents reveal that the woman, an Asian national, was initially drawn into the scheme by the man, who promised her a job and financial stability. However, he manipulated her into traveling with him under the pretext of being his girlfriend, during which he smuggled drugs concealed in his stomach. From 2022 to 2024, the couple reportedly earned BD1,200 and BD1,700 per trip. The woman is also accused of participating in receiving and distributing the narcotics in Bahrain. The couple’s arrest followed a tip-off about a drug network using multiple smuggling methods, including the “dead drop” technique. Investigations revealed that the drug dealer had connections with unidentified individuals in an Asian country. A police raid on their apartment uncovered drug processing tools and financial transaction records, leading to their conviction.

Next Tuesday, Parliament will debate a proposal that aims to introduce a discount pass for Bahraini citizens, providing reductions on services across several sectors, including education, healthcare, telecom, and transportation. The Ministry of Finance and National Economy has raised concerns about the potential loss of non-oil income, emphasizing the importance of maintaining diverse revenue streams, especially in the current economic climate. However, the proposal has already been approved by a joint committee, composed of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee and the Services Committee. The committee believes the scheme would significantly benefit Bahraini families by easing the financial burden on citizens. The proposal suggests introducing a card that would provide discounts on various services, similar to the existing benefits extended to certain groups, such as teachers. MP Ali Al Nuaimi, who submitted the proposal, argued that it is essential to support citizens in light of rising living costs and the economic pressures they face. On the other hand, the Ministry of Finance pointed out that the government already offers a wide range of free services, including education and healthcare, and provides discounted fees for senior citizens. The ministry stressed that these efforts already play a key role in alleviating financial […]

A dramatic inheritance dispute ended in court with a man successfully forcing his uncles to return over BD 14,000 they took from a joint account, despite having previously waived their rights to the money. The case cantered around the complex inheritance of a man’s late father, whose death in a road accident resulted in an insurance payout deposited into a joint account held by the claimant’s grandfather and mother. After both the grandfather and mother passed away, the fate of the funds remained unclear. While all heirs of the grandfather and the claimant’s mother had signed a waiver agreeing to forgo their claims to the funds in favour of the claimant, the situation took a turn when the grandfather passed away. The claimant’s uncles, heirs to the grandfather’s estate, launched a legal challenge to open the estate and distribute the funds. They withdrew BD 14,418.195 from the joint account and split it among themselves, despite the waiver in place. According to the claimant’s lawyer, Ghadeer Al Aali, the claimant repeatedly asked his uncles to return the money, reminding them of the agreement they had all signed. When they refused, the claimant was left with no option but to pursue legal […]

In a gripping match of the ICC CWC Challenge League B, Uganda emerged victorious against Bahrain by 52 runs in a contest that showcased both batting brilliance and disciplined bowling. Uganda posted a competitive total of 249/9 in their 50 overs, which proved too much for Bahrain, who were bowled out for 197 in 44.1 overs. Uganda’s batting effort was anchored by a superb knock from Raghav Dhawan, who scored a well-crafted 85 off 105 balls, including 11 boundaries. His innings laid the foundation for Uganda’s total, earning him the Player of the Match award. He was well-supported by Riazat Ali Shah, the captain, who contributed a brisk 49 off 55 balls, and Robinson Obuya, who added 43 runs. Bahrain’s bowlers struggled to contain Uganda’s batters, with Imran Khan being the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 46 runs. Imran Anwar also chipped in with 2 wickets, but Uganda’s lower order, led by Alpesh Ramjani (20* off 21 balls) and Fred Achelam (17 off 9 balls), ensured a strong finish, taking the team to 249/9 in their allotted overs. In response, Bahrain’s chase got off to a disastrous start, losing their top three batters for just 21 runs. […]

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested on Thursday that Palestinians should establish a state in Saudi Arabia, rather than in their homeland, in his latest dismissal of Palestinians’ right to self-determination. “The Saudis can create a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia; they have a lot of land over there,” Netanyahu said in an interview with Israel’s Channel 14. The remarks come as Saudi Arabia and Israel seem even further away from normalizing relations, over a year after officials in the US said an agreement was close. Riyadh repeatedly said over the past year that only a clear pathway towards Palestinian statehood would lead it to establish formal ties with Israel, but Netanyahu rejected the idea outright on Thursday, calling it a “security threat to Israel”. “Especially not a Palestinian state,” he said. “After October 7? Do you know what that is? There was a Palestinian state, it was called Gaza. Gaza, led by Hamas, was a Palestinian state and look what we got.” The interview took place while Netanyahu was on an official visit to the United States. It followed a joint press conference with Donald Trump, in which the US president announced his plan for the expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza to make the Palestinian enclave the “Riviera […]
