Bahrain: Jail terms commuted into alternative penalties for 73 inmates

Seventy-three inmates who served half imprisonment sentences had their remaining jailed terms commuted into alternatives penalties,  said Assistant Attorney-General Chancellor Wael Boualley.

The move was based on the directives which were issued to strengthen penal justice procedures and to modernise the judicial work system.

A timetable was drawn up to expand the implementation of the Alternative Penal Code to identify, through legal objective criteria, the eligible convicts.

The overall number of inmates who have benefited from the alternative penalty procedure is 3,297 convicts so far, said Chancellor Boualley.
