Bahrain: Four Convicted of Drug Trafficking Appeal Jail Term

The High Appeals Court has begun the hearing of an appeal involving three men and a woman who are serving a five-year jail term for peddling drugs within the Kingdom. The next hearing is scheduled for the 20th of August 2023 to consider the appellants’ arguments.

Among the suspects are two Bahraini nationals, one Asian, and an Arab national woman. They were apprehended by the anti-drug department at the Ministry of Interior following a tip-off and a subsequent undercover operation.

During the operation, an agent in plain clothes established contact with one of the suspects and arranged to purchase a gram of shabu for BD80. Subsequently, the suspect was arrested at his residence in Juffair.

Upon interrogation, the man disclosed information about receiving drugs from the Arab woman and cooperated with the police to track her down. He then contacted the woman and proposed to buy 50 grams of shabby for BD600, leading to her agreement to deliver the substance in Juffair.

As the deal was being completed, the second and third defendants, who came with the woman, were also caught red-handed, resulting in their arrest as well. The High Appeals Court will examine the case during the upcoming hearing as the appellants seek to overturn their five-year sentences.
