Dubai Honours Football’s Best at 14th Globe Soccer Awards

The 14th Dubai Globe Soccer Awards was held as part of the Dubai International Sports Conference at the Atlantis resort on Palm Jumeirah.

Top footballers from around the world gathered to receive accolades for their achievements over the past year.

Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, presented the awards, where he urged winners to “leverage their influence and recognition to set exemplary standards, not only within their immediate sporting communities but also to the millions of followers they inspire worldwide,” as per a statement by the Dubai Media Office.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland was named Best Player for his performances this season.

Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo picked up three awards including the Globe Soccer Maradona Award for being the top goalscorer in 2023.

Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, received the Best Coach prize.

In addition, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham won Emerging Player, Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati claimed Best Women’s Player, and Egyptian side Al Ahly were honoured as Best Middle East Club.

Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, Mattar Al Tayer was also present along with Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of Manchester City.

Secretary General Saeed Hareb said the awards “draw the participation of renowned international sports stars and key decision-makers, shaping the future of sports.”

The event highlighted growing female representation with a panel discussion titled ‘Women and Football’.

Speakers including FIFA Director Ornella Belia and AC Milan Regional Director Greta Nardici shed light on women’s increasing roles in the professional game.

This year’s ceremony promoted sustainability through eco-friendly practices like electronic invites.

It marked the first football awards show to work towards carbon neutral status in partnership with the Neutral Carbon Zone.
