The Kuwait Civil Chamber of the Court of Appeals has imposed a heavy fine of KD5,001 on a primary school teacher for “slapping, insulting, and threatening a student, according to a report by Arab Times Online.

The temporary compensation will be granted to the student’s guardian, “for the moral and material damages” he suffered from the teacher.

According to the report, which cited Al-Anba Daily, Attorney Mustafa Mulla Youssef, the lawyer of the guardian, told the daily that his client obtained a final Criminal Court ruling on abstaining from punishing the defendant.

He argued that the criminal ruling proved the defendant’s assault on the student, causing emotional and physical harm.

He also highlighted the defendant’s responsibility for the unlawful act against his client, asserting that this makes the defendant liable for the incident.

Consequently, he claimed his client is entitled to compensation for both material and moral damages.
