New UAE Alcohol Delivery App Citydrinks Announces Abu Dhabi Launch

CityDrinks, an alcohol delivery app based in Abu Dhabi has announced the launch of its operation in the emirate following its legalisation process, the founder and owner, Dominique Szymura.

“We procured two important licenses which align with our goal to maintain control of our destiny and broaden consumer choice,” Szymura said, highlighting the efficiency and supportiveness of the emirate’s government, particularly the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), in the process.

The import and distribution license now allows CityDrinks to offer a diverse selection, breaking free from restrictive agreements, he added.

Anyone over the age of 21 can order alcohol in Abu Dhabi

Customers on the app will be required to go through an ID and UAE Pass verification system.

“In Abu Dhabi, the legal purchase of alcohol does not require a license, just an ID that proves the customer is over 21,” he said, adding that the app requires a one-time, maximum two-minute ID verification for purchase completion.

On delivery, CityDrinks’ delivery executives will perform ID checks upon delivery to comply with regulations and ensure customer security through data encryption.

Abu Dhabi residents of Yas Island and Khalifa City areas will benefit from the Express Delivery service, Szymura said, whereas the Standard Delivery option will be available for Downtown Abu Dhabi residents, with a full range of products delivered within a 2-hour window.

Full operation is expected by mid-December.

Launching in Abu Dhabi over Dubai ‘strategic’

When asked why CityDrinks decided to launch in Abu Dhabi over Dubai in terms of consumer demand, Szymura said: “Despite my familiarity with both emirates, the decision to launch in Abu Dhabi was strategic.”

He pointed out that Abu Dhabi’s burgeoning population and receptive government provided fertile ground for innovation and growth, aligning with CityDrinks’ “ethos.”

On plans for expansion to other emirates, Szymura added that plans are underway in other emirates. “However, we are currently focused on solidifying our presence and operations in Abu Dhabi,” he said.

“Our focus extends beyond the mere act of delivering; we’re dedicated to providing an enriching experience that connects our customers with a vast, curated selection of drinks at the touch of a button,” he said. The customers can choose from a wide range of beer, wine and spirits.
