Oman Grants Citizenship to Over 200 Expats

Oman has granted citizenship to more than 200 expats living in the Sultanate.

The announcement came following an official royal decree.

Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik issued Royal Decree No 2023/83 granting citizenship to a total of 201 expatriates.

It is not uncommon for expatriates to be granted citizenship in the Sultanate, with royal decrees issuing passports to selected individuals.

Applications may be submitted and criteria must be met, including:

  • Payment of a fee   
  • Individuals must not be involved in legal disputes   
  • A health test must be passed
  • Long-term residency in the country must be proven      
  • Arabic language test must be passed
