UAE: 4,300 Emiratis Apply for Astronaut Programme

Sheikh Mohammed, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, on Sunday shared details of applications received for the UAE Astronaut Programme.

Of the 4,300 applications received, 1,400 were Emirati women, while 130 Emiratis held a PhD.

Under the umbrella of Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), the UAE Astronaut Programme, the first of its kind in the region, aims to develop scientific cadres and prepare future generations of astronauts.

On September 25, 2019, Emirati astronaut Hazza Ali AlMansoori became the first Emirati to fly into space, and the first Arab who set foot inside the International Space Station.
