UAE: 90 Premium Number Plates up for Grabs in Open Auction
A total of 90 premium number plates will be up for sale in an open auction this month in Dubai. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will conduct its 112th auction at 4.30 pm on March 18 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel (Dubai), with registrations starting five days earlier. Two, three, four and five digit vehicle licensing plates will be up for sale.
Interested individuals can register through the RTA website or the Customer Happiness Centres located at Umm Ramool, Deira and Al Barsha. However, new users must have a valid traffic file in Dubai.
For participation, a deposit cheque of Dhs25,000 must be provided, which will be returned to the unsuccessful bidder. Additionally, a non-refundable Dhs120 entrance fee will be levied. The successful bidder should pay the bid amount within 10 working days, or else the deposit would be confiscated, with the bidder placed on the defaulter’s list.
Additionally, a 5 per cent value-added tax will be applied to sold number plates. Any person has the right to own any number of numbers, RTA said on Monday. In September of last year, Dubai plate number ‘AA 13’ was sold for a massive Dhs4.42m at the 110th open auction held for distinctive vehicle number plates.
