UAE Launches Investigation After Over 100 Cats Dumped in Desert

Peta has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest after more than 100 cats were found dumped in the desert in the UAE.

This week the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) launched an investigation after around 150 cats were found abandoned in the Al Falah desert in Abu Dhabi.

In response to receiving a report about the incident, the DMT vowed to take all necessary administrative and legal actions, according to a statement by the Abu Dhabi Media Office (ADMO).

UAE authorities said they are investigating “to identify perpetrators of this inhumane act, which contradicts civilised morals and values.”

Now, animal rights group Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has offered a substantial reward for anybody who can provide information leading to an arrest.

In a statement issued to AFP, Jason Baker, senior vice president, said: “Peta Asia is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever dumped these cats in the desert to die horribly of thirst, starvation, and from the unrelenting heat”.

The DMT has asked people in the UAE to report any instances of animal abuse or neglect that place animals in peril.

They provided a contact number, 800 555, for individuals to use when reporting such incidents.
