Oman Awarded $6.7 Billion Contract for World’s Largest Green Hydrogen Plant
Omani authorities have been awarded a $6.7-billion deal to build the world’s largest green hydrogen plant in Duqm, a port town in east-central Oman, according to reports, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The award was secured by a consortium led by South Korean steelmaker Posco Group including Samsung Engineering and two other Korean state-run power companies as well as French energy major Engie and Thailand’s national petroleum company, PTTEP.
The Omani authorities will be signing the deal on June 21 with Posco’s consortium partners in the presence of its energy and minerals minister, it stated. Oman is planning to build one of the largest green hydrogen plants in the world in a move to make the oil-producing nation a leader in renewable energy technology.
Construction is scheduled to start in 2028 in the Al Wusta governorate on the Arabian Sea. It will be built in stages, with the aim to be at full capacity by 2038, powered by 25 gigawatts of wind and solar energy.
