Abu Dhabi To Host Mavericks vs Timberwolves Matches in October

Dallas Mavericks, the 2011 champion team owned by the renowned investor Mark Cuban, will lock horns with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2023, which will be held at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, 5 October, and Saturday, 7 October.

This is part of a multi-year agreement signed in late 2021 between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) to host preseason games in the UAE capital.

Atlanta Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks played the league’s first games in the UAE last year. In January, the NBA and DCT Abu Dhabi launched an expanded second season of the Jr NBA Abu Dhabi League, featuring boys’ and girls’ leagues that saw participation from 450 players ages 11-14 from several Abu Dhabi schools.

The two games are likely to feature Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic, a four-time NBA All-Star and three-time All-NBA First Team member. Another big name with the Dallas franchise is Australian Kyrie Irving, the 2016 NBA champion (with Cleveland Cavaliers) and eight-time NBA All-Star.

The Timberwolves currently feature Karl-Anthony Towns, a three-time NBA All-Star and two-time All-NBA Third Team member; Rudy Gobert, a three-time NBA All-Star and Defensive Player of the Year and the exciting Anthony Edwards, the 2023 NBA All-Star.
