Bahrain: Appeals Court Rejects Case of Asian Domestic Worker Who Fled Sponsor

The High Appeals Court underlined the foreign employee’s right to move to another sponsor, provided he doesn’t violate the rules and rights of his sponsor as well as spend a minimum of one year in his workplace.

This came during the ruling in a case filed by a Bahraini man and an Asian domestic worker to annul the decision of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) which refused to transfer the Asian woman’s sponsorship to the Bahraini man due to the fact that she ran away from her first sponsor. The Court rejected their case, citing that the Asian woman violated the rules and the rights of her sponsor after running away.

The Court added that the Asian woman didn’t respect the agreement signed between her and the sponsor. “The LMRA confirmed that the reasons behind declining the Asian woman’s application were due to the fact that she fled from her sponsor and joined the new sponsor in addition to not completing one year,” the Court said in its ruling. “As a result, the Court rejected this case on the grounds of the violation committed by the Asian woman,” the Court added.
