Bahrain: Man Receives 5 Years in Jail and BD 5000 Fine for Peddling Drugs

The High Criminal Court has awarded a man, an Asian national, five years in jail and a fine of BD5000 for selling Marijuana in the Kingdom. The Court also ordered the man’s deportation upon completing his jail term.

Police said they had arrested the suspect during an undercover operation launched following an investigation into a tip-off about his illegal activities. Court files said an agent in plain clothes posed as a buyer and contacted the suspect, who agreed to sell BD20 worth of Marijuana at a meeting place in Manama.

However, on the day of the deal, unaware of the trap set, the suspect walked into the designated place only to find himself surrounded by police officers. Officers told the Court they recovered undisclosed amounts of drugs and proceeds from the sale of drugs from him. The Public Prosecution charged him with drug selling and abuse after lab tests confirmed the presence of drugs in his bloodstream.
