Kuwait Takes Action Against Companies Found With Expired Food
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has taken a regulatory initiative to prevent the distribution of adulterated food products and penalise offending companies. The Ministry has urged the Federation of Associations to take action against three recently closed companies that were found in possession of substantial quantities of expired meat, fish, and cheese. The Ministry has dispatched an official letter to the Union of Cooperative Societies, outlining stringent punitive measures against the companies with documented fraud cases.
The Ministry has requested the Union to disseminate information to the associations, prompting them to initiate necessary actions against the companies facing closure. As per the directives from the Ministry of Commerce, cooperative societies are instructed not to sell any products from the offending companies. Moreover, they are prohibited from displaying these products on their shelves or allowing their sale through their outlets until the conclusion of the prosecution’s investigations. The final decision, whether the companies are acquitted or penalized, will determine the course of action.
These measures signify a new approach in the trade sector, which is not limited to companies recently apprehended with significant amounts of expired food items. Instead, it is poised to extend to any company engaging in deceptive practices such as manipulating expiration dates or offering products unfit for consumption. This proactive stance is designed to encompass all companies, ensuring the eradication of substandard goods from cooperative societies, markets, and various outlets.
