Bahrain: Two Women Jailed for Luring Girl Into Prostitution With Fake Job Offers

A European national, aged 32, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the High Criminal Court for allegedly trapping an unsuspecting girl with fake job offers, locking her up and forcing her into prostitution. The court also sentenced her accomplice, also a woman, aged 33, to three years in prison and slapped a fine of BD2,000. Both women will be deported from Bahrain after serving their jail terms.

Case files say the defendants lured a 19-year-old girl to Bahrain by offering her a fake job as a fashion model. However, when the victim arrived, the first defendant locked her up in an apartment with the help of the second defendant and forced her to have sex with unknown individuals.

The victim’s ordeal came to light only after she managed to escape from the captivity of the suspects. She recounted to prosecutors that she was locked up in an apartment, and men were sent in to have sex for money. “When I resisted, they demanded $2,500 for my release and threatened to implicate me in drug peddling if refused.”

The victim further revealed that she fell into the trap by responding to an online advertisement offering a job as a fashion model. The Public Prosecution charged the suspects with human trafficking and Representative Pictures prostitution.
