Bahrain: Wedding participants accused of breaching health protocols

Two people accused of taking part in a wedding ceremony in the Southern Governorate have been remanded in custody, said the Ministries and Public Bodies Advocate Prosecutor.  

In a statement today, he said that the Public Prosecution had also asked for results of the police investigation with other participants who will face a criminal trial.
 
The Southern Police Directorate notified the Public Prosecution after spotting video footage of a street wedding ceremony attended by over 30 people at a residential area, in breach of the mandatory precautionary measures for combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
The Public Prosecution warned that it would take all deterrent legal measures to clamp down on such violations.
 
Ministries and Public Bodies Advocate Prosecutor urged compliance with all mandatory precautionary measures for combating COVID-19  and adherence to health protocols to curb infections in support of national efforts fighting the pandemic.  
 
He pointed out that the Public Prosecution would take legal action against violators of the mandatory precautionary measures, warning that lawbreakers would be jailed up to three years and fined BD5,000.
