UAE: 2 Girls Killed In Motorcycle Accident In Ras Al Khaimah

Two teenagers died after a vehicle hit their motorcycle in Ras Al Khaimah on Saturday, the Emirate’s police have confirmed. According to the force, the girls were aged 14 and 15. They were riding their bike on an internal road when the car hit them from behind. The police said distracted driving caused the accident, adding that the car’s 37-year-old driver has been arrested. On being alerted about the accident, police patrols and paramedics rushed to the spot, but the girls had died by then due to the critical injuries they sustained in the crash. Distracted driving is among the major causes of deadly crashes in the UAE, accounting for about 25 per cent of all road fatalities in the country. The traffic offence is punishable by a Dh800 fine and four black points. The RAK Police have urged drivers to avoid all forms of distractions while driving, warning of potential accidents that they could result in. According to the traffic awareness platform RoadSafetyUAE, distractions include looking after children, texting, talking on the phone or to a passenger, eating, or reading. “All distractions compromise the safety of the driver, passengers, pedestrians and those in other vehicles.”

UAE Has 24,000 Registered Drones; Updated Rules For Use Announced

There are 23,960 drones registered in the UAE, according to the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Since the personal drone ban was lifted by UAE authorities, a total of 93 companies have been registered and 270 individual applications have been received to date via the UAE Drones Unified Platform. The GCAA clarified that the UAE Drones Unified Platform is an interactive platform designed to register and regulate drone operations, provide information on usage requirements, and ensure compliance with laws and procedures that safeguard individuals and property. Drones in the UAE It said that the platform offers a centralised hub to simplify procedures for users by involving all relevant authorities in one place. It is a foundational pillar to support the continuous development and improvement of the UAV sector. UAE Weather Tomorrow: Light Rainfall Likely in Some Areas

Expect a partly cloudy to cloudy day at times tomorrow (January 13), the National Centre of Meteorology said in its weather forecast for the UAE. It also mentioned a probability of light rainfall over some coastal and Northern areas. The forecast further says it will become humid by night and Tuesday morning over some internal areas with a probability of mist formation. Light to moderate Northwesterly winds will blow, freshening gradually by afternoon, with a speed of 15km/hour and 30km/hour and even reaching 40 km/hr. The sea will be moderate, gradually becoming rough by afternoon in the Arabian Gulf and slight in Oman Sea.

UAE Developing Space Craft to Land on Asteroid Belt

The UAE is developing a space craft to land on an asteroid belt beyond Mars. In the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of the Supreme Space Council, the UAE Space Agency and the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) signed an agreement to design and develop the EMA Lander. It will be aboard the MBR Explorer, and will be deployed to study the 7th asteroid Justitia, as part of the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt (EMA).  UAE Asteroid Belt mission The agreement was signed by Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, and Faisal Al Bannai, Secretary-General of the Advanced Technology Research Council. RTA Opens New 2-Lane Bridge on Dubai’s Sheikh Rashid Road

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened the second bridge within the Phase 4 of Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. This newly constructed bridge facilitates traffic flow from the intersection of Al Mina Street and Sheikh Rashid Road to the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road. The bridge spans 605m, comprising two lanes with a designed capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. Sheikh Rashid Road in Dubai Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project encompasses the construction of four bridges with a total length of 3.1km and a combined capacity of about 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes. The first bridge was opened in December 2024. It facilitates traffic flow from the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road towards Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection. Sharjah Launches Remote Vehicle Renewal Service

Sharjah Police (SP) has introduced a new initiative to facilitate the remote renewal and inspection of vehicles through a smart app. Sharjah Police, in partnership with Rafid Automotive Solutions, designed the innovative service to streamline the technical inspection and renewal process, resulting in time savings and enhanced service quality for users. The initiative focuses on private vehicles bearing Sharjah plates, as long as they are less than eight years old and have undergone their last technical inspection within the past 18 months. Sharjah vehicle renewal With the Rafid app, users can utilise the “Remote Inspection” feature, complete a series of steps, and upload clear photos of their vehicles, confirming they are free from accident damage and removing the necessity of visiting conventional inspection centres. L’Etape Dubai by Tour de France has revealed new information about its Middle East debut in Dubai this February, including details of two spectacular cycling routes and a special fan zone at Expo Village Park. UAE Updates Rules Regarding Suspension Of Work Permits

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has outlined updates to labour laws regarding the suspension of work permits for workers who leave their jobs without proper authorisation. The ministry emphasised that employees who abandon their jobs without notifying both their employer and the relevant authorities are in violation of UAE labour laws. MoHRE further clarified that foreign workers who terminate their employment unlawfully before the end of their contract will be banned from obtaining a new work permit for one year from the date of cessation. However, the ministry introduced five key exceptions to this rule, including Golden Visa holders. Exemptions to work permit suspension The following categories of workers are exempt from the one-year work permit suspension: Workers sponsored by family members or relatives Workers seeking a new permit with their current employer Highly skilled workers with specialised professional or technical knowledge Holders of the Golden Visa.
