Dubai Launches World’s First 3D Construction Certificate System

Dubai Municipality has introduced the world’s first system for certification and conformity marks within the 3D printing construction industry.

The move aims to streamline processes and enhance the quality of concrete mixes used in licensed factories operating in the emirate, further strengthening the city’s position as the world’s first city to adopt a conformity marking strategy for 3D printers in construction.

Dubai Central Laboratory will supervise the new system, handling product evaluation, auditing, and lab testing.

They will issue conformity certificates in line with approved technical principles and controls, building on their track record of elevating product quality and ensuring consumer protection.

By using 3D printing technology in construction, benefits such as reduced errors, minimised material wastage, and accelerated project completion with minimal manpower, will be expected.

Dubai Municipality Drives 3D Printing Excellence

“The certification and conformity mark system aligns with Dubai Municipality’s proactive vision, embracing international best practices to serve both individuals and the community. It enhances Dubai’s global reputation and supports Dubai’s 2030 Plan. The system also aligns with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s 3D printing strategy, positioning the UAE and Dubai as regional and global hubs for 3D printing technology,” Director General Dawoud Al Hajri said.

In addition, CEO of the Environment, Health, and Safety Agency Engineer Alia Al Harmoodi detailed the system’s main focus, including assessing product and raw material quality, ensuring machinery efficiency, defining technical standards, and optimising management systems within factories.

Dubai Municipality’s 3D printing guidelines

The municipality has also provided detailed guide on its website, outlining the key requirements for factories involved in 3D printing for construction.

This guide covers various methods and technologies for manufacturing concrete in 3D printers and considers material components and specifications used by companies.
