Higher Education Council Cracks Down On Fake Universities In Bahrain
The Higher Education Council, in its regulatory capacity over the higher education sector in the Kingdom, has referred a report to the Public Prosecution regarding two fake institutions impersonating universities.
These institutions have been illegally offering academic programmes and services to citizens and residents, in violation of the law, higher education regulations, and approved policies, the Council announced in a statement.
“Through its dedicated monitoring and follow-up, the Council identified these fake universities luring citizens and residents with promises of accredited degrees and false claims of having a physical campus in Bahrain through online platforms and social media,” the statement stated, adding: “The Higher Education Council has promptly initiated the necessary procedures to refer the matter to the Public Prosecution, accompanied by comprehensive reports and information gathered during their monitoring process,”
The Council assures that the names of these fake educational institutions will be publicly announced once the legal authorities complete their necessary investigations.
Furthermore, the Council urged citizens and residents interested in pursuing academic studies at higher education institutions to refer to the lists of approved academic institutions and programmes in Bahrain, clearly listed on the Council’s website.
They are also advised to seek necessary consultations from the General Secretariat of the Higher Education Council in this regard.
Moreover, the Council warned against responding to or falling prey to deceptive advertisements that offer anonymous certificates not linked to an actual, licensed university campus in Bahrain.
“Engaging with such institutions can cause significant harm, as the certificates obtained may not be verifiable or usable for employment or other purposes due to their complete contradiction with the law and approved regulations,” the statement concluded.
