Dubai Police Nabs Asian Driver Involved in Hit-And-Run Accident

Dubai Police has arrested a 24-year-old Asian driver involved in a hit-and-run accident within less than three hours, the authority said in a statement on Tuesday.

The incident left a 27-year-old Asian man with severe injuries as the driver attempted to escape from UAE to avoid being captured.

The injured victim received urgent medical care at Rashid Hospital, and the incident’s details were briefed by Colonel Abdel Moneim Abdel Rahman Muhammed, Acting Director of Bur Dubai Police Station.

He revealed that the Command and Control Room received a tip-off last Sunday at 10:00 PM about a hit-and-run accident in the Al Quoz Industrial Area.

“Upon investigation, it was found that the young Asian man was crossing a side street when he was struck by a vehicle, and the driver fled the scene,” Colonel Abdel Moneim said, adding that police patrols were dispatched to the accident site to assess the situation and take necessary measures.

“Within an hour, they successfully located the vehicle involved in the collision abandoned with visible signs of impact. The suspect was placed on the wanted list and apprehended in less than three hours while attempting to flee outside the country,” Moneim added.

Colonel Abdel Moneim stressed that improper pedestrian crossings and drivers failing to prioritise pedestrians and fleeing accident scenes are major factors in pedestrian collision accidents.

He also said that such actions “constitute two criminal offences punishable by law.”
