UAE COP28: UK’s King Charles To Attend Opening Ceremony

UK’s King Charles III will be in attendance at the opening ceremony of the World Climate Action Summit at COP28 UAE.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, extended the invitation to the King, who will address the summit as part of the proceedings.

The 28th Session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) will take place from November 30 to December 12, 2023 in Expo City Dubai.

The opening ceremony, scheduled for Friday, December 1, 2023, will take place in Dubai and is being hosted by the President of the UAE.

While in the UAE, The King will utilise the opportunity to hold crucial meetings with regional leaders in the lead-up to COP28.

This pre-summit engagement underscores the significance of international cooperation and collaboration in addressing climate-related challenges.

A significant precursor to the World Climate Action Summit, the inaugural COP28 Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum is set to take place on Thursday, November 30.

King Charles will be in attendance at a reception for the launch of this two-day forum, which runs concurrently with the main summit.

The forum is hosted by the COP28 Presidency in partnership with the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI).

The forum is a high-level gathering that will bring together leaders from the business, finance, and philanthropy sectors, alongside world leaders.

Its aim is to expedite climate and nature solutions and drive tangible results.

The Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) holds a pivotal role in the COP28 Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum.

Founded by King Charles, then Prince of Wales, in 2020, the SMI is a private sector-led coalition dedicated to accelerating the transition towards a more sustainable future for Nature, People, and Planet.

King Charles, in his role as The Prince of Wales, has previously delivered opening addresses at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021 and COP21 in Paris in 2015, highlighting his long-standing dedication to the climate cause.
