Oman records new COVID-19 mutants including South African strain

The analysis of the epidemiological situation data in the Sultanate showed that new COVID-19 mutants including the South African strain were recorded in the country.

The Supreme Committee in charge to deal with COVID-19 within the framework of its continuous session has followed the developments of this pandemic, and the committee has reviewed the epidemiological situation of Corona disease at the international level in which many countries of the world are witnessing a sharp increase in the number of infections and deaths. Some of this spread is due to the presence of rapidly spreading mutated strains of the virus.

At the local level, the analysis of the epidemiological situation data showed an increase in the number of inpatients in all parts of the Sultanate, as a number of governorates recorded high hospitalization levels that exceeded the severity index, which was negatively affected at the national level, which also exceeded the severity index.

The data also revealed an alarming increase in the number of travel-related cases, especially in light of the global spread of the disease in the countries of departure and the lack of data on the situation, especially the new strains, in a number of others.
