Philippines: Lockdown Extended in Capital, High Risk Areas

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday extended a lockdown in the capital and other provinces considered high-risk for novel coronavirus infection until May 15.

Duterte also threatened to impose martial law if communist rebels did not stop their attacks amid the outbreak of Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus, said a dpa report.

One person per household would be allowed to go out to buy groceries, medicines and other essential supplies.

The Department of Health on Thursday reported 271 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, bringing the national tally to 6,981. It also reported 16 additional deaths pushing the death toll to 462.
