Woolly Mammoths Could Come ‘Back to Life’ in Just Five Years, Scientists Claim

Woolly mammoths could be brought back to life in five years, boffins claim.

They hope to recreate the ancient beast’s gene set by combining genetic material from remains from the Arctic permafrost with DNA from Asian elephants.

Scientists at biotech company Colossal Biosciences reckon the first calf could be born by 2028. It claims on its website: “Bringing the woolly mammoth back means bringing back a better Earth.”

The experts say once the genome is rebuilt they can implant mammoth embryos into surrogate elephants. They reckon the new animal will be a cold-resistant elephant with all the biological features of the woolly mammoth.
