Bahrain: Expat Shopkeeper ‘Killed’ Over Payment Dispute
An Indian shopkeeper died in Bahrain after being hospitalised following a dispute with an Arab man who refused to pay.
K. Basheer, who had been running a cold store in Riffa Hajiyat for 25 years, passed away at the BDF Hospital, sources said.
The incident that led to his hospitalisation occurred when an Arab customer visited his shop last week to make a purchase but got into a dispute with Basheer and refused to pay.
According to CCTV footage, Basheer follows the customer out of the shop, demanding to be paid for the goods he was taking with him.
Following hand-to-hand combat, the customer can be seen pushing Basheer due to the force with which he falls on the footpath, hitting his head, and losing consciousness.
He was admitted to the BDF Hospital, where he was on ventilator support for four days before passing away this morning.
An arrest has been made. The Indian Embassy and KMCC (Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre) are following up on the case.
Basheer is survived by his wife, Hairunnisa, and children, Fabiyas and Nihaal.
