NSSA Bahrain Opens Registration for Space Applications Hackathon Challenge
The National Space Science Authority (NSSA) announced the opening of registration for all programmers, scientists, designers, storytellers, technicians, and those passionate about space sciences and students to participate in the 6th edition of the Space Applications Hackathon Challenge.
The hackathon is organised by the NSSA and NASA and will be held in Bahrain, for the first time.
The NSSA said that the Hackathon will be held in two different locations, the first will be in the University of Bahrain (UOB) in Sakhir and the second will be in Bahrain Polytechnic in Isa Town on October 7-8.
The NSSA invited those interested in the hackathon to register through the authority’s website.
The NSSA said that participating in the hackathon includes all ages from all over the world. Participants will divided over teams of innovators who use space data available from NASA, to compete in order to devise solutions to challenges facing the space industry, as determined by NASA.
The NSSA added that competing teams must complete their work within 48 hours only, highlighting that the idea of the hackathon depends on motivating the participants to invent new ways and ideas. Space data can be presented in the form of applications, games, or innovative technical solutions by the participants.
NSSA CEO, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Aseeri said that the authority participates in this event annually, noting that Bahrain is considered the only representative of the Arab countries in this hackathon.
He added that because of NSSA’s belief in the importance of this type of competition, and based on the recognition given by NASA to the authority last year, it was decided to expand participation in this year’s hackathon through cooperating with UOB, Bahrain Polytechnic and Bahrain Society of Engineers, to benefit from their expertise in organisng local and international events and competitions, in addition to their wide network which includes experts, engineers, specialists, academics, and university students.
Dr. Al Aseeri said that this event is in line with the authority’s strategic goals, and contributes to raising awareness among the society on the space sector and its importance, and working to organize and develop the national space sector, in a way that contributes to supporting the economy, and creating a sustainable national space sector, highlighting the Kingdom’s position globally in the space sector, to achieve the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
