Ecuadorian Cartel Member Buried With Stockpile of Machine Guns for Protection in the Afterlife

An Ecuadorian cartel leader, Manuel Julian Sevillano Bustamante, was laid to rest with a substantial arsenal of weapons, strategically placed in his coffin. The 39-year-old boss of ‘Los Fatales’ was equipped with an array of firearms including machine guns, shotguns, and even a revolver, ensuring he would remain heavily armed in the afterlife to safeguard himself from potential threats.

They also furnished him with a hat, ensuring his impeccable appearance as he stood at the entrance of the Gates of St. Peter.

According to reports, the leader of ‘Los Fatales,’ a criminal organization operating in the Los Rios region of Ecuador, tragically lost his life in a fatal shooting at a car wash in Mocache, Ecuador. His 20-year-old daughter and a security guard were also present during the incident.

The drug trafficker’s daughter was also shot; she later passed away in the hospital. When his killers learned that Bustamante frequently frequented a particular carwash, they were caught off guard. No one has taken responsibility for Bustamante and his daughter’s demise.

Authorities believe that the attack may have been the result of fights between rival gangs involved in the lucrative drug trade. For control of the drug trade in the provinces of Manabi and Los Rios, the Los Fatales cartel is allegedly at war with the Los Cornejos cartel, according to local media. The investigation is still going on

In Ecuador, gang violence increased in 2022, with 4,600 violent deaths recorded in the country, which was twice as many as the year before. In the first half of 2023, there were 3,568 deaths, which set a new record.

Three political murders occurred earlier this year in less than four weeks and were all purportedly related to cartel violence that shook the nation.

Fernando Villavicencio, a vocal opponent of organized crime and corruption who was running for president, was shot in the open last month.

He passed away after the mayor of Manta, Agustin Intriago, 38, was fatally shot in July. Intriago had just been re-elected to a term that started in May.

A week after Villavicencio passed away, Pedro Briones, a political activist in the area, was shot and killed.
