The General Traffic Department has collected a total of 66,000 dinars within a mere 24-hour period through its presence across land, air, and sea entry points. This was in response to the decision enforced on Saturday for traffic violations against both Gulf nationals and expats.
Due to severe violations that couldn’t be addressed via the ministry’s website, the travel plans of approximately 50 men and 20 women were disrupted. Some individuals faced travel restrictions owing to “blocks” and vehicle seizures. Notably, the majority of collected violations involved individuals from various Asian nationalities.
The General Traffic Department also made it clear that fines for exceeding speed limits or parking in designated spots for people with disabilities cannot be settled through official platforms or the Ministry of Interior website, reports Al-Rai. Instead, individuals are required to settle these in person by engaging with the Violations Department well ahead of their intended travel date.
In a move to enhance efficiency, the Traffic Department has initiated the rapid registration of violations and their prompt entry into the violation system, a process accomplished within 6 minutes of issuing the violations. These notifications are then dispatched through the “Sahel” application. This initiative aims to ensure timely collection of fines, whether during government transactions, travel arrangements, or expats’ residency renewals.
Sources highlighted that the swiftness in issuing and documenting violations within the system serves to safeguard public funds while also curbing reckless behaviour. The linking of systems between the General Traffic Department and other government entities has further bolstered this endeavour.
