UAE Records Hottest Day of Year as Scorching Temperature Hits 50.8°C

The UAE’s scorching summer reached new heights as the hottest day of the year has been reported, according to the National Centre of Meteorology.

The country’s hottest moment came in Abu Dhabi in the middle of the afternoon, when thermometers measured an annual high of 50.8°C.

The peak was measured at 2.45 pm in Owtaid in the Al Dhafra region.

Across the United Arab Emirates regions reported temperatures in the high 40s, with Mezaira seeing the mercury reach 50.8°C.

Although not common, temperatures in the country do sometimes pass 50°C in summer months. In July thermometers went above the level for the first time in the year.

Worldwide, July 2023 recorded the hottest month on record as temperatures crossed levels known over the past 120,000 years.

The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment reported that the initial three weeks of July saw a surge in global temperature averages. The recorded data has now established July 2023 as the warmest month ever recorded on a global scale.
