Saudi Takes Action To Exterminate Migratory Indian Crows
Steps have begun to exterminate Indian crows that have migrated to Saudi Arabia. The action comes in the context of increasing numbers of crows from India, which is affecting the population of tiny indigenous fauna in the Kingdom.
Indian crows have migrated to Saudi Arabia’s southwestern cities of Jizan and Farasan Island. The National Wildlife Development Centre is taking control measures in case these do not go back and their numbers increase.
The region’s small animal and bird populations have been said to have declined significantly as a result of Indian crows consuming them. It is estimated that if Indian crows are not controlled, the survival of other species will be affected.
Indian crows disrupt power supply by nesting in power lines, eating seabird eggs and chicks, attacking livestock, spreading disease, etc. The move to eradicate Indian crows from Saudi Arabia is part of a national project implemented by the Wildlife Development Centre to protect the country’s biodiversity and genetic resources.
