Bahrain: Capital Municipality Cracks Down On Violations In Sitra Central Market

The Capital Municipality has launched a regulatory campaign in the Sitra Central Market aimed at ensuring compliance with legal requirements for licencing commercial units and addressing overdue debts.

The initiative was confirmed by Capital Municipality Director-General, Mohammed Saad Al-Sahli, who emphasised the municipality’s commitment to enforcing the law, particularly in light of escalating municipal violations related to public road occupancy, cleanliness, and financial obligations.

Al-Sahli reported that the two-day campaign resulted in notifications being issued to 40 out of 116 commercial units in the market.

These included 16 violations for vegetable and fruit stalls, 24 for fish-selling stalls, and one for a commercial store.

The primary focus of the violations was on settling overdue debts.

The Director General explained that the municipality aims to resolve these issues amicably with merchants and beneficiaries of municipal services by encouraging debt settlements.

However, cases are referred to the courts if settlements cannot be reached.

He noted that several agreements have been made with debtors to pay their dues within a specified period according to regulations and laws.
