Eid Al Fitr 2024: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain Announce Holidays

Eid Al Fitr holidays have been announced across the GCC, with government departments and authorities revealing dates and durations of extended breaks.

The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain will all see public and private sector holidays for workers.

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan and is celebrated by Muslims around the world.

UAE announces long Eid Al Fitr 2024 holidays for public, private sector

The UAE has announced a long holiday for both the public and private sector, on the account of Eid Al Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.

These holidays provide both public and private sector employees with an extended break to spend time with their families, engage in festivities, and observe religious practices during the auspicious occasion.

According to the announcement by the UAE government, holidays for the public sector will begin April 8, 2024 and will go on until April 14, 2024.

This means that the public sector can look forward to a nine-day holiday, inclusive of two weekends (April 6-April 7 and April 13-April 14). Work will resume on Monday, April 15.

For the private sector, the holidays will begin on Ramadan 29 and continue until the Shawwal 3.

If Ramadan lasts for 29 days, UAE residents will have a six-day holiday, including one weekend.

If Ramadan extends to 30 days, the holiday period will be nine days, including two weekends.

The exact duration of the holiday will be confirmed on Ramadan 29, which falls on Monday, April 8. On this day, the moon-sighting committee will announce whether the moon has been sighted, which will determine the start of the new month and the length of the holiday.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has announced dates for Eid Al Fitr holidays in the private sector.

The Human Resources and Social Development shared a statement on social media saying the Eid Al Fitr holiday will begin on Tuesday, April 9.

As per the tweet, a four-day will be given to private sector employees in the Kingdom.

Taking into account a Friday-Saturday weekend, it means workers in the Kingdom will enjoy a five-day break from Tuesday, April 9 to Saturday, April 13.

Qatar

Qatar has announced Eid Al Fitr holiday dates for the public sector.

On the occasion of Eid Al Fitr, the Amiri Diwan announced that the holiday for ministries, other government entities, and public institutions starts on Sunday Ramadan 28 1445 AH, corresponding to April 7, 2024, and ends on Monday, corresponding to April 15, 2024.

Employees are to resume work on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

Oman

Oman has announced Eid Al Fitr holiday dates for the public sector.

On the occasion of Eid Al Fitr, the Sultanate announced that the holiday for public and private sector starts on Tuesday, Ramadan 29 1445 AH, corresponding to April 9, 2024, and ends on Saturday, corresponding to April 13, 2024.

Employees are to resume work on Sunday, April 14, 2024.

Kuwait

Kuwait has announced dates for the Eid Al Fitr holiday this year.

The holiday for Eid Al Fitr will be from Tuesday, April 9 to Saturday, April 13 the Civil Service Commission (CSC) announced.

In a statement on social media the CSC said that work at government institutions would be suspended during the period expect for entities of specialised nature, which would continue to operate according to their own capacities.

Bahrain

Bahrain has announced Eid Al Fitr holidays for public sector workers.

Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, issued a circular on Sunday, April 7 on the Eid Al-Fitr holidays.

The circular stipulates that the Kingdom’s ministries and public institutions will close on the day of Eid Al-Fitr and the two days that follow.
