Police yesterday arrested a woman, an Asian national, at Bahrain International Airport with five kilogrammes of a narcotic substance called shabu. In a statement confirming the arrest, the head of the Drug Crimes Unit at the Public Prosecution stated that the suspect has been remanded into custody pending further investigation.
Incidents leading to the arrest started with the Public Prosecution receiving an alert from the Anti-Narcotics Department of the General Directorate of Investigations and Criminal Investigations on the smuggling attempt. Prosecutors said they immediately opened an investigation and took the suspect for questioning.
Reportedly, during the interrogation, the suspect confessed to her crime when confronted with the evidence. The seized drugs are currently being tested by the Drug Control Department.
