A Kuwaiti police officer has been dismissed from the patrol unit following allegations of an inappropriate search of a woman, according to Sheikh Fahad Al Yousef, Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Minister of Interior. The dismissal followed an internal inquiry by the General Department of Control and Inspection, during which the officer admitted to violating proper search procedures. The incident came to light after the woman filed a formal complaint with the General Department of Inspection. In her complaint, she alleged that the officer stopped her vehicle during a patrol, requested her identification, and instructed her to exit her car. The officer then searched both her personal belongings and her body, leaving her feeling uncomfortable and surprised by the encounter. The officer reportedly left the scene without offering any explanation for the search. Authorities have emphasised that the behaviour demonstrated in this incident will not be tolerated and that any violations of protocol will be met with serious consequences.

The mobile application will serve as the official proof of a valid driving licence, further simplifying the procedure. In addition to changes in driving licence validity, the department has also updated regulations for vehicle inspections. Newly purchased vehicles and motorcycles will now undergo their first technical inspection three years after the date of purchase, followed by another inspection three years later. The Ministry of Education is set to implement flexible working hours for educational and administrative staff beginning next Sunday, following three weeks since the start of the school year. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the relevant departments within the ministry, after consultations with the Civil Service Commission, have finalized the circular detailing both official and flexible work hours for employees across all educational stages in public and private schools, as well as in religious and special education institutions. In these new guidelines, the Ministry has established specific controls for flexible working hours applicable to teachers and school administration. Additionally, further regulations have been set for those in guidance positions. The Ministry emphasizes the importance of school administration—including school principals, assistant principals, and heads of subject departments—monitoring school hours in accordance with established systems and regulations. The Ministry also stressed the need for at least one school administration employee, such as a principal or assistant principal, to be present during student hours until the end of official working hours. An educational stage supervisor will oversee compliance with this requirement. Should any administrative employee fail to be present, legal procedures will follow, and the issue will be referred for investigation. […]

A Kuwaiti court has upheld four-year imprisonment sentencing each handed down to a Kuwaiti food inspector and an expatriate for involvement in a bribery case. The appeals court has also ordered the inspector be dismissed from her job and pay a fine of KD4,000. The expat was convicted of mediating in bribery in return for revoking violation notices at the central market in the Hawlli governorate, south of Kuwait City. The prime defendant, being a civil servant, was charged with accepting a bribe of KD2,000 in return for destroying the violation notices while the co-defendant was charged with acting as a broker in the bribery crime. Both defendants were caught in a police ambush while exchanging the notices for the KD2,000 bills after they had been numbered to serve as evidence in the case. In recent years, Kuwait has stepped up a crackdown on white-collar corruption. Earlier this week, Kuwaiti authorities uncovered attempts led by a civil servant charged with receiving money and using forgery to place expatriates on Kuwaitis’ sponsorship lists without their sponsors’ knowledge. Kuwait is studying an increase in petrol prices based on the global market for “expatriates only,” a Kuwait newspaper has reported, citing a government source. “This increase will not include citizens and will apply to expatriates only,” the source added. The government will approve a cash subsidy for Kuwaitis to spare them bearing any increase in petrol prices,” the source said. “It is unreasonable that the expats and visitors to the country benefit from low-priced petrol although they are two times higher in numbers than the citizens,” the same source said. The reported price increases and their rates are being studied and will be approved soon, the source added. There was no immediate comment from the government. In recent years, Kuwait has intensified efforts to create jobs for its citizens, replace foreign employees, and address a demographic imbalance in the country. Foreigners currently constitute 3.3 million of Kuwait’s 4.9 million population. Recent official figures have shown that the numbers of expatriates in Kuwait have dropped by 8,845 at the end of June compared to January. Kuwait has toughened measures against illegal foreign residents and warned that any expatriate covering up an unlawful resident will be deported too. Authorities are pressing […]

Kuwaiti authorities have uncovered attempts led by a civil servant charged with receiving money and using forgery to place expatriates on sponsorship lists without their sponsors’ knowledge. The scam came to authorities’ attention after a Kuwaiti citizen had filed a legal complaint that he had discovered a foreign worker had been put under his sponsorship without the complainant’s knowledge, a security source said. In response, police in charge of expatriates’ residency affairs conducted investigations, which concluded that a woman civil servant working at a government service centre stood behind the illegal act. Investigations, moreover, showed that the woman had been earlier involved in nine similar cases, but the claimants waived their legal action against her. Initially, the civil servant denied during questioning involvement in the latest incident. But the expat, put under the citizen’s sponsorship, told investigators that he had given money to the woman in return for the unlawful step. Faced with his admission, she acknowledged she had conducted several transactions, unlawfully placing expats under Kuwaitis’ sponsorship without the latter’s knowledge. Prosecutors ordered her remand pending further interrogation. The case surfaced as Kuwait is going ahead with a security clampdown on illegal residents. Last week, Kuwaiti Interior Ministry said […]
