Global Covid-19 death toll passes 3 million

The global Covid-19 death toll topped 3 million Saturday, amid repeated setbacks in the worldwide vaccination campaign.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the number deaths is about equal to the population of Kyiv, Caracas, or Lisbon. It is bigger than Chicago (2.7 million) and equivalent to Philadelphia and Dallas combined.

The true number is believed to be significantly higher due to possible government concealment or overlooked cases in the early stages of the outbreak.

Worldwide, deaths are running at over 12,000 per day on average and new cases at more than 700,000 per day.

AstraZeneca’s vaccine has likewise been hit with delays and restrictions in some countries due to a clotting scare.
