Oman: Churches, temples to be closed until further notice

Temples and churches in Oman will be shut down until further notice to avoid gatherings and overcrowding, in the latest measure taken by the country to curb the spread of COVID-19, local media reported.

It will temporarily bar people from entering these places of worship, and in the meantime, people are requested to pray with their families at home.

“The faithful are hence advised to avoid any group prayer meetings in private or public places, including homes and rented halls, and are encouraged to stay at home and pray with their family members,” said a circular issued by Fr. Raul Ramos, the parish priest of St Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruwi.

“Pursuant to the new directives communicated to us to refrain from holding any public gatherings in line with national efforts to combat COVID-19, we, the Catholic churches, shall comply with the directives of the Government of Oman,” he added. “The church will remain closed from April 3, 2021, until further notice.”

The gates of the temples in the country are also shut to outsiders, as part of the regulations.
