Qatar: 112 people arrested for not wearing masks

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Friday arrested and referred 112 people to the Public Prosecution for not wearing masks, which is mandatory as part of COVID-19 precautionary measures, local media reported.

Ten more people were also reported for violating maximum number of people in a vehicle, which is specified as 4 including the driver, except for the members of the same family.

MoI and health authorities have been continuously warning the public to follow the precautionary measures like wearing masks, following social distancing and restricting the number of people in vehicles to fight the COVID-19 pandemic from spreading.

“In implementation of the cabinet decision and Law No. 17 of 1990 regarding infectious diseases, and precautionary measures in place to limit the spread of the Coronavirus, Qatar’s competent authorities referred 112 people to the Public Prosecution, for failing to comply with wearing masks in places where it is mandatory,” the ministry said in a statement.

Till now 1,879 people have been referred to the Public Prosecution for not wearing masks and 113 people for not following the limit of people inside a vehicle.
