UAE Announces Plan To Provide 6,000 Rest Stations For Delivery Workers During Midday Break

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced plans to provide 6,000 rest stations for delivery service workers across the UAE.

An interactive map will be launched enabling workers to locate the stations easily during the mandatory midday break from June 15 to September 15, 2024.

This initiative aims to ensure the health and safety of delivery workers by offering them a safe place to rest. It is a joint effort between MoHRE, the Roads and Transport Authority, Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre, economic development departments and major delivery companies.

Numerous restaurants, shopping centres, retail stores, and cloud kitchens will also offer rest areas for delivery service drivers, WAM reported.

In a press statement, the Ministry affirmed, “Delivery services are a key logistical sector, unique in nature, given that its workers do not stay in one place while the midday break is enforced, and due to the nature of certain materials being transported that need to be delivered on time.”

It continues an initiative started last year providing 365 stations for drivers, especially between 12:30 PM and 3 PM when the midday break is in force.

Employers must provide shelters from sunlight, cooling systems, water, refreshments and first aid at work sites during this period under MoHRE rules.

Breaches of the midday break terms can be reported to MoHRE’s call centre, app or website.
