Bahraini Artist Rashid Al Khalifa Exhibits New Work at Baku’s Cultural Centre

Prolific Bahraini artist, Shaikh Rashid Al Khalifa’s latest works are exhibited at the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Centre in Baku, Azerbaijan. The exhibition, “First Light” opened on 14 March and will run until 10 September, aiming to strengthen Bahraini-Azerbaijani relations in the field of art and culture.

“To have had this opportunity to exhibit here is not something that I take for granted. I often draw on aspects of my heritage, culture and surroundings to create contemporary sculptures and I am so pleased to share these new works in a museum that is renowned for its innovative and cutting-edge design and in a country with such a rich culture and heritage,” said Rashid Al Khalifa.

With Azerbaijan’s artistic movement gaining momentum, the Republic is becoming a destination for art and culture. By stressing art’s ability to connect, build bridges and create experiences that remain in our collective conscience, Rashid Al Khalifa expressed his aspirations for Bahrain to host exhibitions by Azerbaijani artists.

His work, ‘First Light’ intersects tradition and the future; heritage and contemporary design; the environment and industry. Drawing further inspiration from his home, Bahrain, a melting pot of influences in itself, Rashid Al Khalifa’s work brings different attributes together, resulting in compelling formations with distinct identities.
