Tech Expert Shows Boarding Pass Hack for Flight Hidden in iPhone

After you’ve waved goodbye to your baggage and watched it disappear along the conveyor belt behind the check-in assistant you’re left with a strip of paper. The boarding pass, your ticket to ride that you tuck into your passport and relentlessly check it’s still there for two hours until – breath – you eventually clamber the steps to your flight and give it its final airing, waving at the air stewardess like a lottery ticket.

And after that, it’s dead to you. But it needn’t necessarily be. For that strip of paper has a secret power you never knew existed. There is a little-known iPhone trick that allows you to check this all by scanning your pass on your Apple device. Tech vlogger who goes by @BetimiTech on TikTok posted a video showing travellers how they can do this.

He explained that with one simple tap, you can find out all your flight details – including if your plane has been delayed and how long the journey itself will take. On the video, which has more than 51,000 views, the TikToker posted: ‘You can see how long your trip will take and everything else.’

In the video, the tech pro proceeds to produce a boarding pass and then opens up the Camera app on his iPhone. Then, he takes a photo of it – making sure that the writing is clear- and opens it up in the Photos application. Double tapping to zoom in on the screen, he can press down on the flight details. This brings up a small black box and he presses the option to ‘preview flight’. Another tab then opens, which displays a real-time map of his flight.

In the detailed preview, he can see where he is flying from and to, the time the flight is departing and arriving, beside a world map of the journey, terminal number and boarding gate. As well as this, the flight duration is outlined as well as a section below for baggage claim. While not all the flights will appear, most major airlines support this feature on the iPhone.

And with the summer holiday season soon upon us, this is not the only aeroplane trick you need to know. You can now also add a boarding pass, ticket or other pass to Apple Wallet on your iPhone.

To do this, you need to:

  1. Open the app, email, notification or other communication that contains your boarding pass, ticket or other pass.
  2. Tap Add to Apple Wallet.
  3. The Add to Apple Wallet button
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  5. If necessary, tap Add in the top right-hand corner.

Once you have followed these steps, a smaller version of your physical boarding card will appear. While it contains limited details about the flight in comparison to the hack above, this one will allow you to scan your boarding pass easily or present it to the flight attendant. It should be noted that you may need to unlock your device to show your pass or ticket before scanning or tapping it.
