UAE Residents Open Homes, Offer Meals to Stranded Travellers

When widespread flight disruptions triggered by regional airspace closures forced airlines to suspend or delay services, many travellers in the UAE found themselves in a situation few had anticipated. Planned itineraries gave way to uncertainty as passengers waited in terminals or extended hotel stays, unsure when their next flight home might depart. Some had been passing through the country on connecting flights; others had arrived for brief holidays. But as schedules shifted and departures were postponed, the disruption left many stranded across cities, including Dubai, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah. In response, residents across the Emirates have begun offering quiet acts of assistance — opening their homes, providing meals and arranging basic necessities for travellers they had never met before. Among those stepping forward is Riyaz Raj, a consultant, businessman and owner of the restaurant Rio Broast Chicken. A long-time resident of the UAE, Raj said the sight of stranded visitors struggling to manage the unexpected costs of extended stays compelled him to help. “Many tourists are stranded in Dubai, and several have exhausted their money on accommodation, attractions and food,” he said. “So now I am here helping anyone in need of food and essentials.” Raj, who has lived […]

UAE plans air taxi corridors connecting airports to landmarks

Dubai: The UAE has begun defining the regulatory framework and air corridor mapping for the movement of piloted and autonomous air taxis and cargo drones. The aerial corridors and regulations will be defined within the next 20 months, and the routes will connect key international airports and iconic places in the UAE, authorities have said. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), in partnership with Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) entities—Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and ASPIRE—announced Thursday that the UAE is “on track to reshape the way people and goods move through urban spaces.” Together with GCAA, these entities hope to define airspace regulations and develop management systems. The new air corridors will offer innovative passenger and cargo transport solutions, relieving pressure on traditional road networks and improving connectivity. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, said, “Air corridor mapping for piloted and autonomous air taxis and drones is a crucial milestone that will enable the seamless implementation of Advanced Air Mobility into the UAE’s infrastructure.” He added, “This initiative ensures the safe and efficient adoption of air mobility, delivering transformative solutions to urban transport and paving the way for a smarter, more connected future.” The initiatives will be […]

UAE Ambassador Says Arab World Has ‘No Alternative’ To Trump’s Gaza Plan

In an extraordinarily surprising development, the United Arab Emirates (UAE has signaled the possibility of removing all Palestinians from Gaza, in accordance with Trump’s controversial Gaza plan. UAE Ambassador to the US Yousef Al Otaiba in a fresh interview called the plan “difficult but inevitable” and said he’s sees “no alternative” but Trump’s plan to expel Gaza’s population and undertake massive economic redevelopment of the Strip. He had been asked by a reporter whether the UAE is working on a separate plan, to which he responded no, there’s no other plan. It was in September 2020 that the UAE announced the Trump-sponsored Abraham Accords for normalization with Israel. UAE has long been a close regional US-ally, but the ambassador’s words are still deeply surprising and might actually contradict the UAE’s official stance. For example, regional media just yesterday reported: The UAE, a key ally of both Israel and the United States in the Muslim world, has taken a firm stance against U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported plan for Gaza. In a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan strongly rejected any attempt to displace Palestinians or deny them their “inalienable rights.”  The country’s leadership […]
