Bahraini transport officials met with senior officials from the GCC Railways Authority on Thursday to discuss the latest developments on the railway line project set to initially connect Bahrain and Saudi Arabia via the King Hamad Causeway before integrating with the wider GCC network, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.

The Assistant Undersecretary of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation & Telecommunications, Hussein Ali Yaqoub, commended the authority’s role in advancing the railway sector in the GCC region and fostering coordination among member states to execute the railway project.

The meeting reviewed the progress in the transitional phase of the King Hamad Causeway project, advancements in the preparation of the railway track on the Bahraini side, and the development of the King Hamad International Station in Al Ramli. Moreover, the GCC delegation discussed details of engineering designs and meeting points between the two kingdoms.

The GCC Railways Authority established in 2022, has been entrusted with the responsibility of formulating the overall policy for the Gulf railway network, as well as coordinating efforts among member states to ensure the smooth delivery and operation of the railway project.

The planned railway network is expected to enhance connectivity and bolster regional integration within the GCC countries, as well as create opportunities for economic collaboration and trade facilitation.
