Woman Carrying 68 Sim Cards Stopped At Chennai Airport From Boarding Flight To Dubai

Carrying an unusual number of SIM cards forced a woman flyer to miss her flight to Dubai on Wednesday as immigration officers at Chennai airport raised a suspicion and handed her over to police. Inquiries revealed that the woman carried the SIM cards for a relative and his friends working there who want to play rummy online.

Roja, 40, of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh reached Chennai airport on Wednesday to fly to Dubai where she works as a domestic help.

While clearing her passport, immigration officers noticed that she was in possession of a huge number of SIM cards.

On suspicion that the SIM cards might be misused, immigration officers cancelled her flight journey and handed her over to airport police as she gave contradictory replies to queries.

During interrogation by police, she allegedly told cops that her brother gave the SIM cards to her to deliver them to her nephew working in Dubai. Police contacted the woman’s brother over the phone and he reportedly admitted that he bought the SIM cards from an agent for Rs 400 per card. Police said the cards were meant for workers in Dubai to indulge in online gambling such as rummy.

Police seized the SIM cards and summoned the woman’s brother to give an undertaking. However, no FIR was registered as there was no provision to book people for carrying SIM cards.
