Bahrain: ‘Sea of Life’ Art Exhibition to Be Held in New York

An art exhibition, themed “The Sea of Life: Modern and Contemporary Art from The Kingdom of Bahrain” and including 14 Bahraini artists, will open in New York, USA, on November 29, and run up to March 30.

Patronised by the National Council for Arts (NCA), the exhibition is held in coordination with the Bahraini Embassy to the US and in cooperation with the Middle East Institute (MEI) and the Rashid Al Khalifa Art Foundation.

Commenting, His Highness Shaikh Turki bin Rashid Al Khalifa, NCA Deputy Chairman, lauded the directives of Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, NCA Chairman, to develop all types of art in the kingdom and spread awareness of their importance in society by implementing artistic programmes and providing support for artists.

He hailed the NCA Chairman’s keenness to ensure the success of Bahraini artists’ participation in this international artistic event.

HH Shaikh Turki bin Rashid indicated that the gallery exhibition provides an opportunity to highlight Bahrain’s artistic heritage and enhance national artistic creativity, noting that the participating artists include Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Marwa Al Khalifa, Mohammed Al Mahdi, Mariam Al Noaimi, Jaffar Al Oraibi, Abdulkarim Al Arrayed, Mashael Al Saei, Jamal Al Yousif, Nasser Al Yousif, Ibrahim Bou Saad, Balqees Fakhro, Aisha Hafiz, Ghada Khunji and Abbas Yousif.

His Highness asserted that the theme of the event, “Sea of Life”, is consistent with Bahrain’s distinctive features, namely rich history, ancient cultural heritage, and natural resources, noting that the expo will highlight the extent of the close connection between the Bahraini people and these elements, as the sea is a widespread symbol of life in many cultures and religions, which was prevalent in ancient times on the islands of Bahrain, and water is the force that surrounds them and provides them with a “sea of life”.

Lyne Sneige, the Director of the Arts and Culture Centre at the Middle East Institute, expressed thanks and appreciation to the National Council for Arts and the Rashid Al Khalifa Art Foundation for their coordination in achieving common visions and goals.

She stressed that the exhibition provides a new opportunity to bolster Bahrain-US cooperation, as it will contribute to introducing Bahraini art to the American public, especially given the fact that Bahrain boasts distinguished and emerging artists who have attained many successes and achievements at the local and international levels.
