The Bahraini Farmers market, supported by stc Bahrain and National Agricultural Development (NIAD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs, has witnessed a significant growth in popularity after undergoing an infrastructure transformation of its facilities and a renewed focus on local famers’ produce, culinary experiences and family-entertainment activities. This year, the Bahraini Farmers Market, with 33 farmers and 18 F&B outlets, has experienced a substantial increase in visitors, totalling over 132,000 to date. The number of visitors has consistently increased from 13,546 in the first week to 87,438 visitors in four weeks of the market being operational. Moreover, the market has witnessed a huge surge in local produce showcased at the market from 78,000 kg in 2023 to 90,000 kg in 2024. The market has undergone transformations of its lake and palm oasis areas, theatre and games zone with special dedicated areas created for local farmers to showcase the produce, craftsmanship to highlight their artistry and an entertainment area for the kids. stc Bahrain’s participation extends beyond just numbers. The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) is gearing up to host the eighth edition of the Bahrain Food Festival 2024 in Marassi Bahrain, Diyar Muharraq, from February 8–24, 2024, with the participation of over 100 restaurants, cafes, and local and international hospitality vendors. Throughout the 17 days, the festival will feature different entertainment events, including live shows. In addition to showcasing Bahraini artists and local bands performing on the main stage at Marassi Beach, these include the Ismael Dawas Band, The Ravens, AQ Jazz Experience, DJ Swif, Oracle Project, Relocators, Five Star, and others. The festival will see the return of the traditional village, offering a diverse range of delectable dishes that celebrate Bahraini flavours. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning will hold the third edition of the Housing Finance Exhibition at City Centre Bahrain on February 8-17. The event is in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to hold events and exhibitions that highlight housing services and financing programmes. Commenting, Amna Al Rumaihi, Housing and Urban Planning Minister, said that the number of real estate companies and agents participating in the Housing Finance Exhibition will increase significantly this year. She indicated that 28 real estate companies will offer more than 10,000 varied properties at prices that suit the value of housing financing, adding that eight commercial banks participating in the housing financing programme will also take part in the Housing Finance Exhibition 2024. His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander, yesterday inaugurated the AH1-Z Cobra, the newly introduced attack helicopters into the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) as part of the Bahrain Shield project. The inauguration, coinciding with the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the BDF, was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Prime Minister. His Majesty the King was received at the venue of the event by Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Commander-in-Chief of the BDF. His Majesty was accompanied by Lieutenant-General His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor and Royal Guard Commander; and Colonel His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Commander of the Royal Guard’s Special Force. The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) announced the implementation of 1,454 inspection campaigns and visits, during the week of 28 January to 3 February, which resulted in the detention of 127 violating and irregular workers, while 135 violators were deported. The inspection campaigns and visits also resulted in the monitoring of a number of violations related to the provisions of a number of regulating laws, especially the Labour Market Regulatory Authority and the Residency Laws in Bahrain, noting that legal measures were taken regarding the observed violations. The Authority explained that 1,430 inspection visits were carried out on various shops in all governorates, in addition to 24 joint inspection campaigns, that included 11 campaigns in the Capital Governorate; 6 campaigns in the Muharraq Governorate; 5 campaigns in the Northern Governorate, and 2 campaigns in the Southern Governorate. The government entities that participated in the campaigns are the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence, the Sentence Enforcement Directorate, and the Governorates Police Directorates, as well as the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority. The Kingdom of Bahrain seems to be experiencing a feathered frenzy, with bird breeding blossoming into a popular hobby and a potential economic driver. According to the Bahrain Bird Society (BBS), bird breeding across the Kingdom has soared by 25% since 2020, fueled by a passion for avian companions and a drive to raise Bahrain’s profile in the international pet industry. A 24-year-old Asian man has been sentenced to three years in prison in Bahrain for violently attacking his roommate over an unpaid electricity bill. The attack reportedly resulted in a permanent disability to the victim’s face. The Bahrain High Criminal Court also mandated the deportation of the assailant upon completion of his imprisonment. A medical committee appointed by the court determined that the victim suffered a 5% disability on his face as a consequence of the attack. According to court records, the altercation unfolded following heated arguments over the shared payment of their electricity bill in their shared accommodation. Both individuals jointly paid the electricity bill, but tensions escalated when the victim requested the accused settle his outstanding portion to prevent a disconnection. The accused, however, failed to comply, resulting in the electricity being cut off in their apartment. The dispute escalated into violence, with the accused brandishing a knife and striking the victim’s right cheek, causing him to lose consciousness. The prosecution charged the accused with assault causing bodily harm without the intent to cause the described injuries. The first edition of the Healthcare Centres Conference and Exhibition, themed “From Theory to Excellence,” has kicked off. 800 specialist doctors, academics, consultants, experts, students, and those interested in the field of primary health care, in addition to 76 speakers from Bahrain and abroad, participated in the conference that ran until Sunday, February 4. The three-day conference featured 14 workshops covering key topics such as family medicine, emergency medicine, infection control, vaccinations, chronic, infectious, and hereditary diseases, and mental illness, as well as oral and dental health. The conference also discussed other important issues, such as developing primary healthcare policies, innovation in treatments and medical devices, improving quality and safety in health services, exchanging experiences in health institutional accreditation and how to implement and manage relevant medical and health regulations. The conference also reviewed the latest procedures and laws adopted in regulating primary healthcare through 38 plenary sessions that addressed topics related to legal and ethical work in the primary healthcare sector. Lebanese businessman Nadim Lababidi, known for his role as an agent for Cathay Pacific Airways in Bahrain, passed away yesterday in Beirut. Having permanently resided in Bahrain since 1990, Nadim collaborated closely with businessmen Jamil Wafa and Akram Meknes, notably in the airline industry. Nadim, the son of Salah Lababidi, who served as the Director General of Police in Lebanon during President Camille Chamoun’s tenure, leaves behind a legacy of contributions to the business community in Bahrain.
