A partial collapse of a treated water collection basin at the Nizwa sewage treatment plant has caused significant flooding at the Friday Market, damaging vendors’ goods. Nama Water Services has issued an apology and a clarification statement regarding the incident. The overflow, caused by a breach in the embankment of the collection pond, resulted in water flowing into Wadi Kalbu. Nama Water Services has activated an emergency response plan and is coordinating with relevant authorities and field teams to manage the situation. A specialized committee has been formed in cooperation with the governor’s office to assess and evaluate the damages caused by the flooding. The company assures that the treated water meets approved standards and is used for irrigation and other purposes. They also stated they are working on a new pipeline to utilize this water for larger development projects in the region. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.

The Board of Directors of Indian Schools Oman has decided to implement the new National Education Policy (NEP) of India across all Indian Schools in the Sultanate of Oman. As per NEP, the academic structure has been redefined into a 5+3+3+4 system, focusing on a holistic approach to education across different stages of a child’s development. As per the new education policy, the Foundational Stage, will now include three years of Kindergarten (Balvatika) for children aged 3 to 6 years, followed by Classes 1 and 2 for ages 6 to 8 years. The Preparatory Stage will comprise Classes 3 to 5 for students aged 8 to 11 years, the Middle Stage will cover Classes 6 to 8 for ages 11 to 14 years, and the Secondary Stage will span Classes 9 to 12 for ages 14 to 18 years. A significant shift for Indian Schools in Oman under the NEP is the expansion of the kindergarten program from the existing 2-year structure to a 3-year program, ensuring a more comprehensive foundational education. Rescue teams from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Department (CDAA) in Al Dakhiliyah responded to a bus collision with a truck in Birkat Al-Mouz township. The Sultanate of Oman has marked a significant milestone with the export of its first shipment of copper concentrates in 30 years. Bahrain’s national football team secured a spot in the Gulf Cup (Khaleeji Zain 26) final after a 1-0 victory over Kuwait at Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium in the tournament’s semi final match. India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the 10th and 12th class board exams will begin on February 15, 2024. The exams will last for 55 days and conclude by April 10, 2024. According to the CBSE press release, the examinations for class 10 will begin on February 15, 2024, and continue till March 13. The 12th board examination will also begin on February 15, 2024, and end on April 2. The release further informed that the exams will start at 10.30 am. For the 10th grade board, the Sanskrit exam will be held on February 19, 2024, followed by Hindi on February 21, 2024. English will be held on February 26, 2024, and Science on March 2, 2024. Home Science is scheduled for March 4, 2024, followed by Social Science on March 7, 2024. The last two exams are Mathematics on March 11, 2024 and Information Technology on March 13, 2024. Oman will participate in the World Intellectual Property Day (IP) on 26th April with the slogan ‘IP and SME: Taking your Ideas to Market’, according to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. Ali bin Hamad bin Saif Al Maamari, Director of the Intellectual Property Department at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said: “Oman’s national innovation strategy relies on the intellectual property axis as a basic pillar to develop a national strategy for intellectual property, which can empower the Sultanate to be ranked among the top 20 countries in the Global Innovation Index.”
