A new spacious lounge with a quiet ‘stress relief area’ opened at Dubai International Airport (DXB) on Terminal 2— but it’s not for everyone. It was built specifically for people of determination. Located at Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport (DXB), this space is the world’s first special lounge for people of determination. It’s spacious enough to accommodate wheelchairs and equipped with features that were carefully designed to meet the needs of those with autism, visual disabilities, and impaired hearing, among others. Upon entry, these travellers are welcomed in a calm environment, with interiors depicting the spirit of modern Dubai. It has contrasting surfaces to facilitate movement for people with visual impairments, and seats located close to staff for those with hearing impairments to make direct communication easier for them. The quiet ‘stress relief area’ was created particularly for people with autism, creating a relaxing, peaceful sanctuary for them. A dedicated area was also built for unaccompanied minors. The project was a product of collaboration between Dubai Airports and dnata, the lounge’s operator. Dubai Police have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Trident Engineering & Marine to boost the design and manufacturing of the force’s USVs – unmanned surface vehicles or drone boats. This MoU is part of the ongoing development of the Dubai Police Smart Boat (Haddad), “a project aimed at enhancing security coverage of the emirates’ water areas.” Haddad also supports the smart transformation of security operations, reduces operational and maintenance costs of security boats, shortens response times, and strengthens databases through field surveys.” Haddad, according to Dubai Police, is the first of its kind project in the region. Maj-Gen Dr Saleh Abdullah Murad, director of the General Department of Human Resources, who signed the MoU on behalf of Dubai Police said: “Haddad project is based on extensive studies, research, visits, and joint coordination with various relevant entities to ensure this project becomes a local and global leading model.” He also emphasised the role of partnerships in exchanging expertise, knowledge, and specialised sciences to achieve Dubai Police’s strategic goals.

UAE residents can look forward to rain in some areas over the next few days, as the country goes through a transition to cooler temperatures. On Saturday, Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to exercise caution amid rain, and to adhere to the changing speed limits displayed on boards. UAE’s weather department also issued a yellow alert, active from 1.30pm to 8pm, for “thunder rain, wind, dust” and a chance of convective clouds formation in some parts. From September 28 to 30, rainfall is likely as convective clouds may form towards the east and south, and over internal areas, according to a forecast by National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). On September 29, rain may also be seen over northern areas. During these days, humidity can be expected with fog and mist being seen during the mornings. Temperatures are also expected to dip. Coldplay fans in the UAE now have another chance to see the Grammy Award-winning band live, as a fourth performance has been added to their Abu Dhabi schedule. The band will now enthral fans in the capital on the following dates: All four shows will take place at the 44,600-capacity Zayed Sports City Stadium, as part of the band’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025. Coldplay was originally set to perform on a one-night only show in Abu Dhabi on January 11, 2025 but has been adding more dates due to overwhelming demand. Flowers at Dubai Miracle Garden (DMG) are once again in full bloom, and the favourite family theme park is re-opening its doors for Season 13 on Saturday, September 28. Entry fee has now also become cheaper for UAE residents, DMG confirmed to Khaleej Times on Friday. By showing their Emirates ID, adults and children can enter the floral park for Dh60 each – down by Dh5 from last year’s price of Dh65. Kids below three years old can enter for free. For tourists and non-UAE residents, however, ticket prices have gone up by Dh5 – now priced at Dh100 for adults and Dh85 for children. Those who are below three years old are also free, even if they are not UAE residents. Air Arabia has announced a new route connecting Ras Al Khaimah International Airport with Moscow Domodedovo International Airport. The service, set to begin on December 27, 2024, will operate three times a week. The new non-stop flights aim to enhance direct connectivity between the two cities, offering travellers more flexible options for business and leisure trips. Direct flights to connect Ras Al Khaimah and Moscow Flights from Ras Al Khaimah to Moscow will depart at 18:20 local time on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving in Moscow at 23:05. The return flights will leave Moscow at 23:55, landing in Ras Al Khaimah at 06:25 the following day. Four members of the UAE Armed Forces who died in an accident while on duty were transporting ammunition inside one of the camps when the incident happened, a top defence official said in a statement. Nine others were injured in the same accident that took place on Tuesday evening, September 24, according to the Ministry of Defence. Those who passed away were identified as Nahyan Al Marzouqi, Ahmed Al Shehhi, Nasser Al Balooshi, and Abdulaziz Al Taniji. Matar Salem Al Dhaheri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence, who visited the soldiers’ families on Thursday, said in a statement: “We offer our sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the martyrs, who gave their pure souls while carrying out the tasks of transporting some ammunition inside one of the camps in the country.” A senior delegation of senior officers from the Ministry of Defence, headed by Matar Salem Al Dhaheri, offered their condolences to the families of those who were killed. The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has issued a decision to administratively close Koukab Zuhal Restaurant in Mussafah Industrial City (M/37) in Abu Dhabi. The establishment, holding trade license number CN-1057282, has been found in violation of Law No. (2) of 2008 regarding food, with its practices found to pose a significant risk to public health. ADAFSA clarified that the food control report indicated that the administrative closure decision against the establishment was due to its violation of food safety regulations. This was specifically because of repeated high-risk violations that directly impact food safety, along with the establishment’s failure to take effective corrective actions to address these violations. Three violations were issued and a warning of administrative closure was given to the establishment. The violations included inadequate separation of sinks during use, improper storage, lack of temperature records for refrigerators and freezers, and uncovered ready-to-eat food . The authority also affirmed that the closure decision will remain in effect as long as its causes exist. The establishment may resume operations after rectifying its situation and fulfilling all the necessary requirements. UAE citizens with a US visa will soon get expedited entry into the United States. This came as the UAE and US signed an agreement to include the country in the ‘Global Entry Programme’, easing cross border travel for Emiratis. The programme will be implemented from October 2024. Global Entry is an initiative that expedites entry procedures into US ports of entry. The programme will expedite the arrival process for travellers into the US while enhancing security. As a pre-screened Global Entry participant, travellers can immediately check in at a Global Entry kiosk at a US Customs and Border Protection Preclearance facility or when they arrive at another US port of entry, avoiding long lines and additional paperwork. Global Entry participants must still have a valid US visa to enter the country. As part of launching this cooperative process, the UAE and US government authorities will begin to develop and finalise criteria that will lead to the UAE’s full participation in the Global Entry programme.
