Bahrain: Man Admits to Impersonating Sibling to Dodge Penalty; Court Awards 6 Months

However, during interrogation, he experienced remorse and confessed to impersonating his brother in a desperate attempt to evade punishment.
The High Criminal Court has sentenced the 36-year-old man to six months in prison for assuming his brother’s identity.
The incident unfolded when the defendant, wanted by law enforcement, ventured into a restricted area.
Alert military officers promptly approached him, demanding identification. Sensing trouble, the defendant cunningly proffered his brother’s driver’s licence instead of his own.
Swayed by the seemingly legitimate document, the officers escorted the defendant to the police station for further processing.
However, it was during this time that the truth began to unravel.
As the case unfolded under the scrutiny of the Public Prosecution, the defendant openly admitted to the charges levied against him.
Further exacerbating the situation, an expert report unveiled the extent of the defendant’s deception, revealing tampering with his brother’s ID card.
Certain numbers and letters had been scraped off, while the photograph had been distorted to conceal its true features.
Consequently, the court ruled the defendant guilty of forgery and the use of a forged document. In addition to the six-month prison term, he was also ordered to pay a fine as retribution for his actions.
